2023 CAM Commission #2 – David Rosetzky, Air to Atmosphere, 2023
Renowned artist David Rosetzky has created the 2023 CAM Commission, with two unique photographic prints from his major 2023 commission, Air to Atmosphere.
David Rosetzky, Air to Atmosphere (2023) is an interdisciplinary project made in collaboration with members of the LGBTQIA+ community on Dja Dja Wurrung Country in Central Victoria, commissioned by Castlemaine Art Museum. Stemming from a series of in-depth conversations Rosetzky initiated with participants, the project unfolds through photography, video, choreography, performance, songwriting, poetry, publishing and social encounter – exploring the diversity, trauma, resilience, and pride of the local LGBTQIA+ community.
Linking to his recent exhibition at CAM, this commission draws from David Rosetzky's video work within the show – as the video stills has been selected from the dance sequence filmed throughout the streets of Castlemaine. This dance sequence, and the choreographed movements devised by Jo Lloyd, were made in response to the bas-relief on the Museum's façade.
CAM Commissions are a series of unique, limited edition artworks developed and available for sale in support of Castlemaine Art Museum.
A vital fundraising venture, all funds raised provide crucial funding toward CAM's operations - underpinned by programming and community engagement enabling local and national exhibitions, artist commissions, and accessible programs.
David Rosetzky (he/him) is an artist and educator with an interdisciplinary and collaborative approach to art making. Often working with practitioners from the fields of theatre, dance and film, he creates videos, installations and photographic works in which identity is intimately observed. With an extensive exhibition history both in Australia and overseas, Rosetzky has presented his work in over 30 solo and 60 group exhibitions. Rosetzky’s works are held in numerous collections around Australia, including National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne; National Gallery of Australia, Canberra; Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney; Art Gallery of South Australia, Adelaide; Art Gallery of Western Australia, Perth; Museum of Contemporary Art Australia, Sydney; and Monash Gallery of Art, Melbourne.
